American Idol Results - Season 6 - Final 7 - Country Week With Martina McBride

Ryan Seacrest began Tuesday night's show with a sad message, "To all those affected by the terrible tragedy at Virginia Tech. Our thougths and prayers are with you." He's representing the show, but the sentiments are shared by viewers everywhere. Our thoughts and prayers are all headed to Virginia right now.

Country Night
Traditionally Country Night can be pretty challenging for American Idol contestants, but thanks to some miraculous mentoring from Martina McBride, most of the remaining 7 season 6-ers acquitted themselves well with her genre.

Topping our country chart is Jordin Sparks, who flew us off to paradise on a broken wing. Phil Stacey and Melinda Doolittle are right up there too, followed closely by Blake Lewis. Mid-table are LaKisha Jones and the enigmatic Sanjaya Malakar (who, by the way, was nowhere near as bad as the panel would have us believe). Unfortunately Chris Richardson's nasal noises didn't work for us, so he's way down in slot number 7 this week.
Martina McBride sings her top 5 Country hit 'Anyway'.
Ryan reads the verdict "After the biggest top 7 vote in Idol history... over 38 million votes... Sanjaya, you are going home tonight."Ironically Sanjaya Malakar, who has given all of America so much to talk about, sings himself out of Idol this week, tweaking his country lyric to 'Let's Give 'Em Something To Talk About... Other Than Hair!'

He may not be American Idol number 6, but the American public have already let him into their heart. The media interest in Sanjaya has been massive and we don't expect the Malakar mullet to fade from the spotlight anytime soon! The future looks bright for sunny Sanjaya and whichever road he takes from hereon, we wish him well.
Simon Cowell's Eye-Roll
Simon Cowell's ill-timed eye-rolling whilst Chris Richardson dedicated his prayers to those affected by this week's tragic events at Virginia Tech has triggered a lot of controversy and debate. This morning, Simon explained on Ryan Seacrest's radio show that he was reacting to Chris' earlier assertion that "nasally is a form of singing" and that he wasn't tuning in to what Chris said about Virginia Tech.

Chris, who is from Chesapeake, VA, did make his dedication quite suddenly and as he was doing so, Simon had already turned to talk to Paula Abdul. Simon's explanation would seem to fit the video evidence, and we have no difficulty in accepting his account of events. On Ryan's radio show Simon again gave his best wishes and support to the families affected by the shootings.
Simon Cowell rolls his eyes skywards after Chris Richardson's "nasally" remark. He doesn't hear Chris dedicate his prayers to those affected by the Virginia Tech shootings.
Update: This controversy was dealt with at the top of tonight's results show. Simon repeated his account, adding, "I may not be the nicest person in the world but I would never, ever, ever disrespect those families or those victims." Previously unseen VT was aired showing him conversing with Paula while Chris was speaking. There were no gaps in the editing and Simon's version of events was clearly what actually happened.
