The first advice Jennifer Lopez gives to Idol's Justin Timber-like, Chris Richardson is to sing Santana's 'Smooth' in a higher register.

Chris has a problem with the word muñequita, because the the Spanish ñ is pronounced like 'ny' so 'muñe' becomes 'munye'.
Jennifer tells him not to forget the 'y' sound. |
On stage, Chris really looks the part, but vocally he still has problems with the lower notes, particularly in the first half of the song.
On the plus side, Jennifer will be pleased that he pronounces muñequita correctly!
Chris finishes strongly and not only do the audience love it, but so do the judges...

 | - Randy Jackson says he wasn't sure how Chris would tackle the song, but thinks he "did a really good job." He tells Chris, "I like that you found yourself at the end and did some runs with it. It was very, very cool, man..."
- Paula Abdul's response is more hormonal, "it was a hot, hot performance... you were sexy!"
- Simon Cowell says it wasn't the best vocal tonight, but adds "I actually preferred it to the first 2, because it felt more contemporary." He agrees with "whatever her name was" (ie. Paula), that "It was a good performance"!
