Phil Stacey - Final 10 Show - Gwen Stefani Night
Gwen Stefani is pleasantly surprised by Phil's rehearsal rendition of 'Every Breath You Take', and she makes Phil smile when she comments "I didn't know it was going to be that good."
On stage tonight Phil delivers an arresting rendition of The Police hit, and we can hear why Gwen was so impressed. His vocal is strong and haunting throughtout. Some people class this as a love ballad, but if you focus on the lyric it's really more of a stalker song! Phil sings it with the necessary hint of obsession.
We like that he's interacting better with the camera this week too. He still needs to improve in this area but it's a definite step in the right direction.
- Randy Jackson thought "it was a really solid performance" and tells Phil "...you got that big old voice. And you sang a couple of runs at the end which kind of made it nice."
- Paula Abdul likes the "color" in Phil's voice when he sings the chorus, but feels he sounds a bit safe when he sings the verses.
- "This may surprise you, Phil", begins Simon Cowell, "but I actually thought that was very good... Great choice of song. It's the only time I felt in the last few weeks that you were actually taking this seriously..." Phil replies with a delighted "Whoo!"
