Chris Daughtry rocks the house up on final 4 night singing "Renegade" by Styx.
Chris is back rocking us with a Styx song from his birth year. He's styled in black to suit the dark, dramatic lyric and his vocal is intense, haunting and unfettered.
Chris delivers the opening bars anthemically with sparse accompaniment from bass beat and backing vocals, then he bounces into Bo-Bice-like rocker mode, carting the mike stand with him as he navigates the circuit around the judges table. It's a big number to carry off in 90 seconds but Chris does a great job.
This is another quality performance that earns him a well deserved triple thumbie-uppie from the panel.

Panel-Bites:

Ryan Seacrest:  (Introduction) Chris coming up next with "Renegade". As it turns out, making this stage was only a matter of time...

Intro clip...

Chris: I was born in 1979 and apparently at a young age I was destined to be a musician. You know, if you ask my parents they'll tell you I've been performing all my life. You know, whether it be dressin' up as a superhero and actin' around the house. You know, I always wanted to be in the spotlight and now, here I am, living my dream.

Chris sings...

¯ Oh Mama, I'm in fear for my life from the long arm of the law ¯ Hang man is comin down from the gallows and I don't have very long ¯ The jig is up, the news is out ¯ They finally found me ¯ The renegade who had it made ¯ Retrieved for a bounty ¯ Never more to go astray ¯ This'll be the end today ¯ Of the wanted man ¯ Oh Mama, I've been years on the lam and had a high price on my head ¯ Lawman said 'Get him dead or alive' now and for sure he'll see me dead ¯ Oh Mama I can hear you cryin', you're so scared and all alone ¯ Hangman is comin' down from the gallows and I don't have very long ¯ Oh Mama, I'm in fear for my life from the long arm of the law ¯

(Cheers and applause)

Background voice: (Sounds like Simon) Jump in Randy. Jump in.

Randy Jackson:  Yo-yo!

Chris: Whoo!

Randy Jackson:  Chris! Yo dawg, all I can say man is "America, we've got a real hot one tonight! Right there!" (Cheers) That was hot baby.

Paula Abdul:  Outstanding. You set... you're already setting it far apart from anyone else. So...

Chris: Thank you so much.

Paula Abdul:  You're on your path. (Cheers)

Simon Cowell:  Okay, for me Chris that was a million times better than the first two performances. It was a great choice of song as well. Well done.

Ryan Seacrest:  (Joins Chris on stage) Daughtry! Well done!

Chris: Thank you.

Ryan Seacrest:  You feel like you've hit your groove?

Chris: (Smiling) Whoo!... (He pats Ryan on the back) ...Yeah, I'm there. I'm good.

Ryan Seacrest:  All right, more to come from Chris... (Gives out the voting numbers) ...Daughtry! Ladies and gentlemen. (Cheers) Our in-house rocker.
