Chris Daughtry sings Bryan Adams' "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman" during the American Idol Final 6 Show. (Love Songs Theme)
Chris has chosen Canadian rocker Bryan Adams' upbeat love ballad which was originally on the soundtrack of the 1995 Johnny Depp movie "Don Juan DeMarco". In rehearsals however, David Foster is concerned that Chris is singing only from his throat and not using his diaphragm.

Andrea demonstrates a technique he uses to help him use more of his diaphragm. Chris looks a bit shocked when Andrea lays down on the floor and starts bellowing Nessun Dorma!

David reveals that Andrea recorded one of his album tracks this way and invites Chris to have a go. Chris is a little hesitant at first but is pleasantly surprised with the result.

Chris Daughtry gets floored during rehearsals by the Bocelli technique!
All over America viewers are no doubt laid out across their floors and booming like Bocelli. Well we all are, I bet you are too!
The magic works onstage too, although Chris surprises us by standing up for the performance! It's a very strong, brooding passionate vocal which intensifies in the latter part of the song up until the last line when Chris brings it down with a soft, romantic finish.
The judges all approve, but they are all on fast forward because earlier overruns mean that the show is about to finish any second.
Randy says "love you", Paula says "love you, love you! Love you!" and Simon says "Very sexy song", which is really quite an apt way to close out a show themed on love songs! Well, see y'all later, we're off to rediscover our diaphragms!

Panel-Bites:

Ryan Seacrest:  (Introduction) Welcome back to Idol. Let's see how Chris did with Andrea and David. Take a look...

Andrea: (To Chris rehearsals) What will you sing?

Chris: Ah, I'm gonna be singing "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman" Bryan Adams.

Andrea: Ahh, difficult title. (Laughter)

Chris: (To camera) It's amazing song, lyrically, musically.

Chris: (Singing in rehearsals) ¯ Tell me have you ever really ¯ Really ever loved a woman ¯

Chris: (To camera) I think it has all the elements of a great love song.

David Foster: (To camera, sitting with Andrea) I felt that he was singing from his here (His throat) and not from here (His diaphragm). Of course with somebody like Andrea he's always singing from here (His diaphragm). He knows just how to do that just right.

David: (To Chris in rehearsals) You probably haven't sung much classical in your life?

Chris: Ah, no sir, I have not. (Smiles)

David: Um, when we were making the record with Andrea he recorded one of the songs laying down. (Andrea laughs)

Chris: (To camera) I thought they were joking...

We see a clip of Andrea lying on the floor singing Nessun Dorma ( ¯ ...Vincerò!... ¯ )

Chris: ...They weren't.

Chris: (To David in rehearsals) Well, I can't do that.

David: Well try it!

Chris: Okay.

David: Go ahead.

Chris: (To camera) That was kind of awkward for me, you know, to lay on the floor...

Chris: (Laying on the floor in rehearsal!) ... ¯ You gotta treat her right ¯ She will be there for you ¯ Takin' good care of you ¯ ...

David: Yeah!

Chris: (To David and Andrea) We good?

David: You good! Yeah! (David and Andrea applaud him)

Chris: (To camera) It actually came out better. It forced me to use more of my diaphragm than my throat, so... it's kinda, it's kinda cool to learn, you know, a new technique.

David: (At the end of Chris' rehearsal) Thanks man.

Chris: (Smiling) Well, it was a new experience.

David: (Laughing) It was.

David: (To camera, alongside Andrea) Chris sings great. If he delivers the performance of his life, he'll do amazing.

Chris sings...

¯ To really love a woman ¯ To understand her ¯ You gotta know what deep inside ¯ Hear every thought ¯ See every dream ¯ And give her wings when she wants to fly ¯ And when you find yourself lying helpless in her arms ¯ You know you really love a woman ¯ When you love a woman ¯ You tell her that she's really wanted ¯ When you love a woman ¯ You tell her that she's the one ¯ She needs somebody ¯ To tell her that it's gonna last forever ¯ So tell me have you ever really ¯ Really, really, ever loved a woman ¯ Oh ¯ You've got to give her some faith ¯ Hold her tight ¯ A little tenderness ¯ You gotta treat her right ¯ She will be there for you ¯ Taking good care of you ¯ Oh, yeah, yeah ¯ She needs somebody ¯ To tell her that you'll always be together ¯ Tell me have you ever, really ¯ Really, really, ever loved a woman ¯

(Cheers and applause)

Background Voice: (Sounds like Simon's) Randy, jump in.

Randy Jackson:  Yo-yo... yo-yo... Amazing. Amazing. Love the jacket, love you... amazing.

Chris: (Nods and smiles) Thank you.

Paula Abdul:  (Standing and waving her arms about) Love you. We all love you! (Getting wilder!) Love you, love you! LOVE you! (Stomps her feet)

Ryan Seacrest:  Simon?

Simon Cowell:  (Stares at Paula for a second, then looks up) That was a very, very good choice of song... (Paula cheers) ...An' it was a great performance. (Cheers) Very sexy song.

Ryan Seacrest:  (Shaking Chris' hand) And we wrap it up on a high note! (Gives out the voting numbers and introduces the recaps) Chris Daughtry ladies and gentlemen!
