Ryan Seacrest: (Introduction - sitting stool to stool with Kellie) Say "Hi" to Kellie Pickler, who's about to sing for yer, ladies and gentlemen. (Audience cheers. Kellie waves) So Pickler, 'love songs' tonight... are you dedicating your song to anybody special?
Kellie: Um, well Ryan, thank you for reminding me that um, I don't have a boyfriend... (Audience laughter) ...I'm lonely. So, no... Maybe to a future boyfriend! (Touching Ryan's knee) You know the movie 'Ghost'?
Ryan Seacrest: I do. Yeah.
Kellie: You know I'm singin' 'Unchained Melody'.
Ryan Seacrest: Right.
Kellie: (Claps) Yay! So um... (Laughter) ... you know the movie 'Ghost', the little pottery scene? In't that sweet, the little pottery... I don't have anybody to play 'pottery' with. (Kellie laughs, so do the audience)
Ryan Seacrest: Well, by the end of the season you'll find a pottery playmate, I'm sure! (Laughter and a whoo! from the audience) Erm, take a look at what happened with Andrea...
Kellie: (Hot and bothered) Ohhh!
Ryan Seacrest: ...and David. Here's Kellie, watch...
Kellie: (To camera) I'm singing "Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers, but um, I'm kinda doin' the LeAnn Rimes um, twist on it.
Kellie: (Beginning rehearsals with Andrea and David) Okay, get your ear plugs out! ¯ I need your love ¯
Andrea: (To camera) I think it's a very beautiful song. Sweet, like her voice.
David: (To Kellie in rehearsals) It was a little bit like this you know... (Moves his hand in a robotic action) ...I mean...
Kellie: Robotic!
David: Yeah, a little bit, yeah, but here's... I think I have an idea... for you.
Kellie: Okay.
David: The big note at the end, that the Righteous Brothers did, can you do that? Do you have a falsetto way up high like that? Or can you do it?
Kellie: I dunno, I can try.
David: (To the Idol piano-man) Can I sit down for one second there.... (Sitting at the piano) ... ¯ I need... ¯
Kellie: Okay.
David: ...but it's huge. It's way up there. Can you get that note?
Kellie: ¯ Oh, (Really high) I ne-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-ed... your love ¯
David: (Excited) That! (Points at Kellie) That! (Raises his arms jubilantly) C'mon! Why didn't you do that?
Kellie: (Smiling, looks a little shocked) Ah... I didn't know I could do it. (Laughs)
David: (Hits the ivories) Do that again?
Kellie: ¯ Oh, I ne-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-ed ... ¯
David: No! Why d'you go... no, don't go off the note.
Kellie: Oh.
David: You're goin ¯ I ne-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-ed ¯ ...(Speaks) but you're ... ¯ I ne-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-ed ... ¯ (Speaks) Hang on the higb note.
Kellie: Okay.
David: Actually even the way you did it... ¯ I ne-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-ed ¯ ...(Speaks) is impressive...
Kellie: (Wide-eyed) It is?
David: ...And that's your own style.
David: (To camera) It... it's such a great song, but if it's sung without passion it can be one of the most boring songs on the planet.
Andrea: She's very happy and I like her, and this is important, also on stage I think.
David: Mm-hm. What color hair does she have?
Andrea: (Laughs) What?
David: What color hair does she have?
Andrea: Blonde.
David: Whoa! (Laughs)
Andrea: (Laughs and slaps his knee)
Kellie sings...
¯ Lonely rivers flow to the sea ¯ To the sea ¯ To the open arms of the sea ¯ Lonely rivers sigh ¯ Wait for me ¯ Wait for me ¯ I'll be coming home ¯ Wait for me, yeah ¯ Oh my love ¯ My darling ¯ I've hungered ¯ Hungered for your touch ¯ A long lonely time ¯ And I know that time goes by so slowly ¯ That time can do so much ¯ Are you still mine ¯ I need your love ¯ I need ¯ I need your love ¯ Oh, god speed your love to me ¯
(Cheers and applause)
Randy Jackson: (Laughs) A'right so check it... this is funny. Okay, the second week in a row, as I'm about to speak you look at me with that... You think you butchered this one too, right?
Kellie: (Croaky) I don't know. I was really scared. (Kellis laughs, the audience follow)
Randy Jackson: Well, you know I appreciate that, but you know there were just pitch problems. It never really quite got on. The only thing that was good was the high note... was in tune. But it was just... it was just very strange this one.
Kellie: (Serious) Oh.
Randy Jackson: It wasn't the right song.
Kellie: Okay.
Paula Abdul: Kellie, um it's hard at this point in the competition. Six of you are fantastic. Um, I don't... (slight pause) ...oh boy! I don't see you raising the bar each week an' I think... I adore you... I think that you're... America has fallen in love with you, but at this point it was about greatness and I don't feel... I didn't feel that from you.
Simon Cowell: I think that deserved tears, but for a very different reason. (Randy laughs, audience groans) I thought it was like the never ending song to be honest with you. (Groans) It was like it's never gonna finish. It was so monotonous and so bland. Um, there was no heart, no warmth from your vocal at all. In fact you... you were like a robot during that performance. Um, it was like you were... (Ryan's entrance music plays) ...I haven't finished ! (Music continues)
Paula Abdul: (Laughs)
Simon Cowell: I've finished.
Randy Jackson: Ryan says you're done.
Simon Cowell: I've finished. I've finished.
Ryan Seacrest: (Joins Kellie onstage) Unfortunately if we don't speed up we're gonna go off the air very soon. Quicker than we want to I think... (Gives out the voting numbers) Simon we got the point. We'll be takin' a break. We'll be right back on the other side with Paris. Good luck Kellie, thank you.
Kellie: (Smiling) Thank you!
