Ryan Seacrest: (Intro part 1) Elliott Yamin ladies and gentlemen, gettin set to sing. (Cheers)
Elliott: Thank you.
Ryan Seacrest: So before Idol took over your life what were some of your jobs Elliott?
Elliott: Oh my goodness, we'd be here all night if we had to talk about that. Ah... (Laughs)...
Ryan Seacrest: So you couldn't keep one.
Elliott: Couldn't keep one... (Ryan laughs) ...You know I... I worked, you know, fast food ah corporate setting, I mean I've done just about everything.
Ryan Seacrest: Were you also on the radio?
Elliott: Who told you that? (Laughs)
Ryan Seacrest: You were a DJ right?
Elliott: I was yeah, just ah... I used to play records from 2 to 6 in the morning, overnight, weekends.
Ryan Seacrest: (A still is shown of Elliott in the radio studio) But now you're singin' the songs, you used to play the songs.
Elliott: Right, exactly.
Ryan Seacrest: And we've a pic... look at that, there's Elliott.
Audience: Arrhhh! (Elliott laughs)
Ryan Seacrest: There he is with the headphones. Why don't you then as if this is a ramp-up a record, introduce your piece here Elliott? You're on the radio live right now. Headphones and everything, go!
Elliott: Can I use my old school radio name?
Ryan Seacrest: Please.
Elliott: It's E-double on your box, make sure you keep alive, we got Elliott Yamin comin' up next rockin' out to Queen, stay tuned. (Audience cheer, Elliott enjoys the reaction)
Intro clip... Elliott: (To camera) This week I chose to sing "Somebody To Love".
Brian May: (To Elliott in rehearsal) Freddie wrote it, inspired by Aretha, you should know that.
Elliott: Oh really?
Brian: Yeah, yeah...
Elliott: Wow, I had no idea.
Elliott: (To camera) Before this week I'd never actually even heard the song before.
Brian: ...And he deliberately wrote it in a sort of gospel style because it has that kind of passion to it, you know.
Elliott: Right, right.
Brian: So be passionate okay.
Elliott: I will.
Elliott: (Singing in rehearsal accompanied by Queen) ¯ Can anybody find me ¯ Somebody to love ¯
Elliott: (To camera) I just think it's kind of ironic that it was written with the 'Queen' of soul in mind. I'm a big fan of hers also, so I just think it's perfectly fitting.
Roger Taylor: I think Elliott chose one of the hardest songs in our song book, yeah.
Brian: Freddie's a hard act to follow.
Roger: Yah.
Brian: I think Elliott does a good job.
Ryan Seacrest: (Intro part 2) 30 years ago the band released "A Day At The Races". The track is "Somebody To Love", it is "Elliott Yamin"...
Elliott sings...
¯ I work hard every day of my life ¯ I work till I ache my bones ¯ At the end ¯ (At the end of the day) ¯ I take home my hard earned pay all on my own ¯ I go down on my knees ¯ And I start to pray ¯ Till the tears run down from my eyes ¯ Lord, somebody ¯ (Somebody) ¯ Oooh somebody ¯ (Somebody) ¯ Can anybody find me ¯ Somebody to love ¯ Ohhh-ee-ooo-oo-ohhh-o ¯ (He works hard) ¯ Everyday ¯ I try and I try and I try ¯ But everybody wants to put me down ¯ They say I'm goin' crazy ¯ They say I got a lot of water in my brain ¯ I got no common sense ¯ I got nobody left to believe in ¯ Yeah, yeah, yea-ah-ay ¯ Find me somebody to love ¯ Find me somebody to love ¯ Somebody ¯ (Somebody) ¯ Oooh somebody ¯ (Somebody) ¯ Can anybody find me ¯ Somebody, somebody, somebody-ay-ee-ay-ay ¯ To lo-oo--ov-ove ¯ Oh-oooh-oo ¯
(Cheers and applause)
Paula Abdul: Yeah! Yeah!
Randy Jackson: A'right, yo. So arguably... arguably dawg, probably... probably the hardest song to sing tonight with all the chord changes and all the stuff. I was lookin' forward to you singin' Queen though 'cause you got that vibrato that kinda matches Freddie Mercury's. There were some pitchy problems, but I tell you what, dude, all in all...
Paula Abdul: Hoo!
Randy Jackson: ...I loved you man, I thought it was really, really good. (Applause)
Elliott: Thank you. Thank you very much.
Paula Abdul: The best vocal tonight! What I love about you... you took the best parts of that song... put it into a minute and 20 seconds... (Randy grunts agreement) ...and you gave the best Elliott Yamin performance. (Drowned out by audience cheers)
Elliott: Thank you very much.
Simon Cowell: You know Elliott as the guys said... You... you chose the tough one. You know I agree with Randy it was a kind of in and out performance. Overall I think you probably pulled it off.
Elliott: Thank you.
Paula Abdul: Yes!
Ryan Seacrest: (Joining Elliott center stage) Attaboy! Good work my man! (Gives out the voting numbers) Well done.
Elliott: Thank you very much.
Ryan Seacrest: Good luck Elliott.
Elliott: Thank you very much.
