Ryan Seacrest: (Introduction) Now we've got our rocker, Chris Daughtry. Take a look...
Intro clip... Kenny: (Greeting Chris in the rehearsal room) It's hard to sing country with a skull on your T-shirt.
Chris: (Smiling) It is.
Kenny: (To camera) Chris is tackling a song that's not easy to start with.
Chris: (Singing in rehearsls) ¯ ...like nobody loves you ¯
Kenny: (To camera) And he comes from a whole different place musically.
Chris: (To Kenny, during rehearsals) All my family listen to country music. I was... I was the rebel and got into rock 'n' roll. (Kenny laughs)
Kenny: (To camera) It's gonna go one way or the other and I think he cares enough and his heart's in the right place. He's gonna make something happen with this.
Chris sings...
I'm gonna be here for you baby ¯ And I'll be a man of my word ¯ Speak the language in a voice that you have never heard ¯ I wanna honor your mother ¯ And I wanna learn from your pa ¯ I wanna steal your attention like a bad outlaw ¯ Mmm-hmmm ¯ And I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you ¯ And I'll earn your trust making memories of us ¯ Ohhhh ¯ We'll follow the rainbow ¯ Wherever the four winds blow ¯ And there'll be a new day-ay-a-ay ¯ Comin' your way ¯ Oo-ooh yeah ¯ And I'll win your trust making memories of us ¯
(Cheers and applause)
Randy Jackson: Yeow! Chris dawg, check it out. You know what's good about tonight? (Applause continues) What's cool man it that every week we've been hearing you do your rocker thing, right? Instead, it was good for you to change up tonight and actually sit there and sing a song. I actually really enjoyed it man, hearing you sing. Good job on a Keith Urban song baby, good job. (Applause)
Paula Abdul: You show versatility and you still stayed true to who you are.
Randy Jackson: Yeah.
Paula Abdul: What a concept.
Chris: Thank you. (Cheers and applause)
Paula Abdul: You did good. A great job.
Simon Cowell: Chris, um, listen... it was great to see a different side of you.
Paula Abdul: (Shrieks)
Simon Cowell: Erm, having said that...
Paula buries her head into her arms on the desk and looks as though she is about to slide underneath it.
Randy Jackson: (To Simon) Yes? And... and... and.... ?
Simon Cowell: (To Paula) What's so funny about that?
Paula Abdul: (To Chris) You have no... you have no idea how he double-talks...
Randy Jackson: Yeah.
Paula Abdul: ...all through the performances.
Randy Jackson: And?
Simon Cowell: Having said that...
Paula Abdul: Uh!
Simon Cowell: I think that for 2 weeks now, you as contestants have chosen really boring uninteresting songs and I think the audience at home deserve better than that. (Audience jeers) I really do. They're not good songs.
Ryan Seacrest: (Joining Chris on stage) And it is up to the audience at home to vote for you if they liked it... they connected with it. It's up to you guys. (Gives out the voting numbers) Chris... (Shakes hands with Chris) Good to see you man.
Chris: Thank you.
Ryan Seacrest: Good luck, all right.
Chris: Thank you.
