| Baby V Bows out in 3rd place. (American Idol 4, Final 3 Results Show) |
| At the top of tonight's show Ryan Seacrest remarks that it's the 'most intense cut to date'. Making us wonder if it's intense because the votes are tight, or simply because it's the cut for next week's grand finale at The Kodak Theater. On last night's show Ryan indicated that there is just of 1% separating Bo, Carrie and Vonzell. Yikes, if that's the case then this contest can sway any way this evening! |
| It's curious that the 1% margin isn't reflected in the online polls. Could it be that such polls, flawed though some of them may be, are a darn site more democratic and reflective of public opinion than the result-riggers dream that is the 'American Idol' voting system? |
Back to tonight's show. It turns out that last night's lucky studio audience were invited to join the Idols for an exclusive preview showing of the latest Star Wars movie (Star Wars, Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith). It's a great treat for the fans and a fantastic promo for Star Wars! We see a clip of everyone getting excited by their Inter-Galactic treat. "Did you like it Carrie?" asks Ryan, back in the studio. "Like it... I did!" replies Carrie in her best Yoda-speak. If this show was called 'Yoda Idol' then Carrie's effort would probably qualify for tomorrow night's "World's Worst Auditions" show! |
As promised yesterday, we get to view each of the contestants during their whirlwind home visits. First we see Vonzell jumping onto her jet, homeward bound to Fort Myers, Florida. Next it's Bo, back in his 'sweet home' Helena, Alabama. Finally Carrie checks out her country roots in cheery Checotah, Oklahoma. For each of them, it's a hectic schedule of interviews with local media, autograph signings and in-store appearances. In each town, crowds numbering in their thousands turn up to cheer them on. It all looks so overwhelming that it even turns Bo a bit tearful, and so tiring that Vonzell almost nods off on-camera! However, to experience so much love and support must also be extremely gratifying for the final 3. Up till now they had barely stepped out of their Idol bubble, so it's their first intensified taste of the Idolatory that awaits them out in the real world! In the studio each Idol follows up their hometown video with a song from Tuesday's show. Vonzell does another fine job of 'Chain of Fools', cheekily singing half of the lyrics directly to Simon Cowell. Bo treats us again to his fantastic Badlands a cappella rendition of 'In A Dream'. Finally, Carrie tenderly reprises 'Crying', the song originally chosen for her by über music mogul Clive Davis. Tonight's Ford promo-video gets screened straight after Vonzell's number, and as usual, it's quite funny! It features the 3 Idols singing 'One Way Or Another'. They are in a red Ford convertible and doing their best to avoid the attentions of the paparazzi. A bit of practice for when they hit the outside world, no doubt! |
By the time Carrie has finished her song it's time for Ryan to reveal which of the 3 will be leaving tonight. He doesn't overly milk the tension this time. He tells them that over 37 million votes have been cast this week and gives each of them a compliment. He describes Carrie as 'outstanding' last night and tells Bo that he gave everybody goosebumps. Vonzell receives the accolade of being the Idol who has grown the most during the competition, but her joy is tempered when Ryan reveals that the person leaving tonight... is Vonzell! |
Wiping tears from her eyes Vonzell watches the big screen and hears herself describing the experience, "My American Idol journey has been 'crazy', It's been a lot of emotions, balled up into one, but it's been all worth it". She graciously manages to smile through her sadness and blows kisses to her family in the audience. |
| So, it's a fond farewell and the best of luck to Baby V, the mail girl who really knows how to deliver! We've really enjoyed her vocal performances, and equally enjoyed her fun loving spirit. She's shown great character throughout this contest and has fearlessly chosen some of the most difficult songs, in order to prove her talent. |
The show closes out with a pleasant enough group rendition of 'United We Stand'. I guess it's difficult to sing at your best after your emotions have just been tugged every which way but loose! Ironically it's Vonzell's vocals that do sound nice and loose, whereas Carrie's and Bo's sound a bit throat-tight. They may be united right now, but Carrie and Bo will be competing hard against one another next week at The Kodak! It's a classic 'Country vs Rock' battle... well 'almost', because as we know, Bo can sing a little bit country and Carrie can sing a little bit Rock 'n' Roll! ...It's going to be interesting! |
