I Don't Mean to Be Rude, But...: Backstage Gossip from American Idol & the Secrets that Can Make You a Star

Constantine Exits In Idol Rocker Shocker! (Final 6 Results Show)

Tonight Ryan Seacrest gives no early warning alert that a shocker might be in store. But there is .... and I am not referring to the 'group' rendition of Emotion by The Bee Gees!
Constantine Maroulis at his smoldering best, singing 'My Funny Valentine'.

There are no real shocks when Ryan splits the 6 remaining Idols into 2 groups. Vonzell takes a walk to the far side, Carrie stepped nearside. Bo joins Carrie, Anthony joins Vonzell.

After the break Scott and Constantine stand center stage flanking their host Ryan, who doubles up on the dilemma he posed to Bo last week.

Ryan asks both guys to move to the group they think they are in tonight. Constantine hops a little sidestep to join Carrie and Bo. Scott slowly swaggers in the same direction.

Vonzell and Anthony stand alone. Vonzell reacts with laughter, Anthony pulls a funny 'yikes'-ey face. Both are probably terrified, but they clap just the same.

Ryan reveals "that Carrie and Bo are in the top group tonight". The audience scream with delight, but cheers become boos when Ryan points out this "...means that Anthony and Vonzell are in our bottom group tonight".

So what about Scott and Constantine? Ryan clears this one up, "...Constantine... you have made a mistake. You are in the bottom group tonight, Scott you are in the top group tonight." Constantine looks a little surprised, but not so much as Scott who laughs in amazement!

To recap, the top and bottom groups are...

  • Carrie, Bo, Scott (top group)
  • Vonzell, Anthony, Constantine  (bottom group)

Scott's inclusion in the top 3 is the first shock of the night. The Shaker Heights crooner was hotly tipped to leave tonight, not least by Simon Cowell who, after hearing him sing Luther Vandross' 'Dance With My Father' told Scott "I'd pack your suitcase tonight".
Tonight's eliminee will be Vonzell, Anthony or Constantine. Happily for Vonzell she doesn't have too long a wait before Ryan tells her she is safe.
Will it be Anthony or Constantine? There wasn't much to choose between their performances on last night's show, but I think that so far, in the finals, Constantine has edged it with his edginess. Bohemian Rhapsody still rings aloud in my head!

Unfortunately, Amercia's verdict is not rhapsodic for Constantine! He leaves tonight!

Simon Cowell was 'astonished' on the night Constantine sang Bohemian Rhapsody; tonight 'everyone' is astonished! Paula even sheds tears! It's a crying shame, and Paula knows it.

What is also 'a shame' is the American Idol voting system!

As many votes as you like! - it's a vote-riggers dream!

Just when are the guys at Idol going to sort this one out?

Of course, possibly they may not want to - after all the current system certainly induces intense dramatic moments, as it has this evening.

Laying that argument to one side, it's time to say goodbye and wish good luck to Constantine Maroulis.

It will be interesting to see how Constantine's showbiz career develops in the weeks and months ahead. Will he keep rocking heavy with his band or has he truly "crossed to the other side", as Simon Cowell pointedly put it to him last night? Which ever route he takes, the huge fan base he's built up during this contest is sure to follow.

He must be a little surprised to be leaving tonight, but Constantine remains philosophical and upbeat about his fate, "...crazier things have happened in my life and I'm just really blessed to have gotten this far and to have met all of you guys."

The program closes out with more tears from Paula,  more shots of shell shocked contestants listening to Constantine declare "I have no regrets... it's been such an amazing time... I'm gonna keep rocking."

Next up, he keeps his word... Constantine rocks... and in very many ways!
