| Anwar's September fall. (Final 7 Results Show) |
This week's result show is back again to a half-hour slot. It kicks off tonight with a touch of Idol self-indulgence. It is revealed that our host Ryan Seacrest has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! It seems like a good excuse for showing lots of goofy Ryan TV moments... until of course we learn that his award is for his services to Radio not TV! Maybe the Idol producers just wanted to congratulate their anchor man... or perhaps they simply felt like padding out the results show with a few funny out-takes! It makes good viewing anyway, and for a few moments turns our thoughts away from the nasty elimination process that lies ahead!
| Hit songwriter John Farrar is in attendance tonight. Olivia Newton John is prominent among the artists John has written for... so also are the final 7 Idol contestants, John has written them a song called 'You Can Shine'. Interestingly 3 of the Idols play instruments as they perform it. Music teacher Anwar plays keyboards, Carrie and Bo both play guitar. The song is quite catchy and all the performing Idols 'shine' at least a little, with Carrie Underwood's vocals shining brightest overall. |
| The commercial break leads into this week's Ford promo video. The 'cartooned' contestants are singing 'Rock This Town' in a '60s drive-in scenario. It's yet another advertising gem. Ford have done really well with these promos all season, they make better viewing than a lot of regular programs. Naturally I don't mean 'American Idol'! |
| There are the usual performance recaps and then it's down to business. |
| In a move reminiscent of Season 3, the final 7 contestants are to be put into 2 groups. One group will be the 'bottom 3', the other will be the 'top 4'. |
- To start things off Vonzell Solomon is asked to move to the far side of the stage (we'll call this Group 1), then Anthony Federov is asked to move to the near side (Group 2).
- Next Constantine Maroulis joins Vonzell (Group 1) & Anwar joins up with Anthony (Group 2).
- After yet another commercial break, Carrie Underwood joins Vonzell and Constantine (Group 1), & Scott Savol joins Anthony and Anwar (Group 2).
|
The result is two groups of 3... - Group 1 - Vonzell, Constantine, Carrie
- Group 2 - Anthony, Anwar, Scott
|
| We don't yet know which is the top and which is the bottom group. The only unallocated contestant is Bo Bice! |
At this point last year George Huff was in Bo's shoes. George was asked to join the safe group. He went to join Fantasia Barrino, La Toya London and Jennifer Hudson, but Ryan shocked him by revealing that they weren't safe, but were in fact the bottom 3! Jennifer Hudson was ousted that night, in what was one of the biggest voting shockers of the season. At this point we start to wonder whether we're in for a similar shocker tonight! |
| Tonight Ryan tells Bo he is safe and asks him to join the group which he thinks is the top group. However Bo seems to have worked out what is going on, because he astutely avoids choosing either group by positioning himself in between the two. The Idols in both groups clap in appreciation of Bo's gesture. | |
| Ryan doesn't force Bo to decide, but tells him to join Vonzell, Constantine and Carrie, who turn out to be the safe group. |
| This means tonight's evictee is between Anthony, Anwar and Scott. Ryan wastes no time in sending Anthony and Scott back to the couch, thus revealing that it is Anwar who sadly is going home tonight! |
| On last night's "'70s Dance Classics" show, Anwar gave a reasonably good performance of 'September' by Earth Wind and Fire. |
He garnered positive feedback from both Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. Simon Cowell however wasn't quite so enthusiastic. He told Anwar " I don't think it was a winning performance."
| Of the bottom 3, Anwar was generally considered the least likely to go home. Ironically that could be the reason why he has been voted off. Supporters of contestants who are thought to be 'in trouble' tend to up their voting levels in order to keep their favorites in! |
Anwar accepts his ousting with a smile. His spirits remain high as he watches the video of his Idol journey on the big screen. The credits roll even before he begins to sing out the show with 'September'. The remaining Idols all look a bit glum, so it's good to see Anwar looking so cheerful! It seems as though he's celebrating what he's achieved by reaching this stage in the contest, rather than dwelling on what might have been. We shall certainly miss his sunny smiles and those funny facial expressions when he's up in front of the panel! Most of all we'll miss hearing him sing! ...'Farewell Anwar and good luck in your future singing career!' |
