I Don't Mean to Be Rude, But...: Backstage Gossip from American Idol & the Secrets that Can Make You a Star

Bo Bice (Birth Year Song - American Idol 4, Final 8)

Bo Bice
Song: Free Bird  Check out 'Free Bird' at Amazon.com (Lynyrd Skynyrd  Check out 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' at Amazon.com) 1975

Bo Bice roams around the stage like a free bird tonight.
Bo wins the hearts of the audience even before he sings a note tonight. His big-eyed baby pic is adorable. Yes, he does look a little like Humphrey.
Imagine if his family had nicknamed Bo 'Humphrey' instead. Would America choose 'Humphrey Bice' as their American Idol? Hmm, debatable!
Bo has chosen to rock tonight with the Lynyrd Skynyrd favorite 'Free Bird', and he looks pretty much a free bird as he roams around the stage wild and carefree.
It's another fine all-round performance.
Randy, who's eyes often seem to light up with respect when he critiques Bo, thinks he could have a hit with this song. Paula is certain Bo will make it to the finals.
Simon isn't so keen. He tells Bo he should rock to well known songs before adding, somewhat conflictingly, that Bo shouldn't have chosen this 'sacred song'!

Panel-Bites:

Bo:  I'm singing 'Free Bird' from Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's from the year 1975, which was the year of my birth. My grandmother was in the delivery room, she said "He looks like a little Humphrey Bogart". So I've always been called Bogart by my family. Up until kindergarten, then I shortened it to Bo, just 'cause Bogart wasn't... it wasn't cool. (Bo laughs) But my family still calls me Bogart.

Bo sings...

Randy Jackson:  Bo! Bo! ... Yo man! You know what? You know what? Yo Bo, you know what, man? I love that song dude. I'm one of your biggest fans. I mean it's the perfect song. You could actually have a hit with that song again. Excellent dude. Excellent! (Cheers)

Paula Abdul:  See you at the finals, Bo. See you at the finals.

Bo:  Thank you, Paula. (Cheers)

Simon Cowell:  Ahm, I'm going to disagree with Paula.

Paula Abdul:  Oh, you always disagree with me!

Randy Jackson:  Oh, come on.

Simon Cowell:  And I think...(Audience boos and groans) Let me finish! Let me finish! (Simon cups his hands around his mouth and shouts!) Let me finish! Thank you. The reason why Bo, is that I think a huge part of the audience who watches this song at home will think, 'What the hell was that?' I think where you're going to do well in this competition is to use the rock influence on your voice on well-known songs. If you come up, run all over the stage, and sing... which is a sacred song like that... I don't think you're going to get many votes.

Paula Abdul:  (Laughs) What are you talking about?

Randy Jackson:  This is a well-known song! It's a huge hit!

Paula Abdul:  (Yelling in Simon's face) What are you talking about?

Randy Jackson:  America! America baby. What are you talkin'... Ryan!

Ryan Seacrest:  Bo Bice!

Randy Jackson:  Ryan!

Ryan Seacrest:  Everybody loves a little 'Free Bird'.
