American Idol Season 3: (Tues/Wed) 4/5 May 2004
Wow, those Idols had a blast on Big Band night!
Sixteen and teeming with talent , Diana DeGarmo's star is shining in its ascendency. The gal who sang "Someone To Watch Over Me" is definitely someone to look out for. Apparently she's been topping the voting figures for the last few weeks! Someone tell Simon please!
George Huff gave good renditions of "What A Wonderful World" and "Cheek To Cheek", and although America had the cheek to send him home you can bet George still thinks it's a wonderful world.
His reaction to being eliminated on Wednesday night was to comfort Jasmine; it says a lot about the guy. George, we'll miss those infectious smiles of yours!
La Toya London continues to impress with excellent performances full of panache and polish. Have we heard her sing a duff note all series? I think not. Her only little fumble was during the link between her songs. She mentioned 'Natalie Cole' then did a double-take as though she'd said the wrong name; however she engaged the audience and recovered really well. Perhaps we had a tiny glimpse of the intense nerves they all must be experiencing up there.
La Toya followed up with 'Don't Rain On My Parade' and nothing did. She totally wowed Randy and Paula. Even Simon gave her 10 out of 10 for a 'very good Broadway performance' - furthermore he meant it as a compliment, bless him.
Jasmine Trias, with flower discretely reinstated sang "Almost Like Being In Love" and "The Way You Look Tonight". Jasmine was looking good and she gave two solid performances. Perhaps they were a little too safe. Simon told her she was 'vulnerable'. With only four left in the competition, Jasmine may need to step out of her comfort zone to counter the competition. She has it all to play for and continues to enjoy tremendous backing from her Hawaii homestead.
Fantasia Barrino gave an incredible performance of "What are you doing the rest of your life?" which she dedicated to her little girl. It was raw emotion, she felt every bit of it and so did we. So too did Paula Abdul who cried so much that she spoiled her make-up, which took some doing on Tuesday night! Thankfully that old softie Simon Cowell was quick to offer his comforting arm.
One thing's sure; it'll be a hot Summer night this Tuesday. Yes it's Donna Summer Disco night and it's guaranteed to be Hot Stuff … so Paula, 'No More Tears - Enough Is Enough'!
